Procedure will be in a few hours...

We went down for our appointment at 10 am.  They were running late and we didn't get into see the doctor until 11:45.  In the first room we saw a nurse who did an EKG and blood pressure.  She also took a bit of a medical history.  It was interesting trying to give medical history when the nurse had limited English and we have no Bulgarian.

We then got into see Prof. Grozdinski who is in charge of the CCSVI testing and liberation procedure.  He did the doplar testing (ultrasound) to see if there were vein blockages.  This was the big moment.  Mom hadn’t been tested for blockages up to this point and although a majority of MS patients have blockages, some don’t.  It was possible to get this far and find out that mom was in the minority to not have blockages and hence they wouldn’t be able to do anything.

The test took about 20 minutes.  Prof. Grozdinski had three students in there with him that we was explaining things too.  Of course everything again was in Bulgarian.  Mom and I listened nervously has he pointed things out on the screen and wondered what he was saying.  Finally, he told mom that she has blockages in both sides of her neck!  The liberation procedure is going to happen this afternoon!

I have to say it was a very scary 20 minutes as they did the test and we waited to hear if she would have the procedure.  Normally when going to a doctor you might struggle understanding the medical lingo but not understanding the language, lingo or pictures was very unnerving.

We’re now in the process of preparing everything for the procedure: blood work, injections, paper work, IV, check into hospital room.  I’ll let you know when we know more!

Hi Maggie - Wow, I can't imagine your anxiety during that test. I didn't realize she hadn't had the doplar ultrasound before going! I'm both happy and sad that she has blockages.
